    Remembering Niobe

When I moved to Colorado Springs in 2011, I had no family or friends here. I had ALWAYS wanted a dog, so I began my research. My researched ended with Great Danes – they do great in apartments, are very friendly, gentle giants, and lastly their physique resonates beauty, sleekness, and power. So, in May of 2011, I picked up Niobe at 8 weeks old at Penrose Danes. I cannot ever explain well enough in words how lucky I am to have found the best dog on the planet! Niobe turned out to be so much more than I anticipated! She was the most fun-loving, free-spirited, and loyal dog. Her dopiness would have us laughing for days! She always knew when I was down, and she would let me come to her for comfort. Her sheer size was one aspect of comfort and joy that I didn’t realize was so important until she was gone. Niobe was also a fabulous hiking partner – she had literally pulled me up many mountains when I was struggling. As a tent mate, she would try to “sneak” onto my sleeping bag (essentially kicking me out of it) because, of course, it was better than her Roughwear tent bed. There was one time she snuck out of the tent in the middle of the night – we heard aggressive sniffing on the outside of the tent and thought we were going to get mauled by a bear!! Haha, but no it was just Niobe. Niobe loved me more than I think any other dog will. She is irreplaceable and unforgettable. On the day of her death, my husband and I sat in the hot tub to cry some more and to talk about Niobe, and as we sat there looking up in the night sky, 2 shooting stars flew overhead separated by about 5 minutes. There was only one reason for those shooting stars – to show that Niobe and Phoebe were happily in heaven and to remind me how bright and brilliant my Great Danes were (and continue to be in doggy heaven). Thank you, Dr. Kelly and team for providing so much love and sympathy during these hard times. Niobe loved you too, which is what she did, spread her love to anyone she ever met. Xoxoxoxo.
